Her inaugural performance with the Wind Symphony opens with Beginnings from Adam Schoenberg’s Rise. Julius Fuçik’s playful Florentiner March and Florence Price’s, Adoration follow. The Wind Symphony closes its performance with Apollo Unleashed from Frank Ticheli’s Symphony No. 2. Tuttarana, recently transcribed by the composer, Reena Esmail, provides an energetic start to the Wind Ensemble’s portion of the concert. Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl Maria von Weber follows as the centerpiece to its season’s opening night! Wind Ensemble: The WCU Wind Ensemble is composed of 45 of the finest wind and percussion players at WCU. As a premier ensemble, the group represents WCU at conventions and performs in high schools throughout the region. Many news works have been commissioned by the Ensemble in recent years. Member is open to all students and is by audition. Wind Symphony: Membership into the Wind Symphony is open to any West Chester University student. An audition is required in October for participation in the Spring semester. The band rehearses two hours a week, meeting once a week in the Fall term and twice a week in the Spring term. Students are asked to conduct a sectional for one hour each week. Music selections are chosen from the standard band literature, transcriptions, and light concert repertoire. Guest Artist Recital: Amy Pfrimmer, soprano and Stephen Ng, tenor Livestream | Program En Français: Mélodies of César Franck and his Musical Heirs Join us for an enchanting evening of French mélodies, featuring the exquisite works of César Franck and his musical successors. This recital promises to transport you to the heart of French romanticism and beyond. Amy Pfrimmer, Soprano Amy Pfrimmer, a distinguished Professor of Music at Tulane University and the Lillian Gerson Watsky Professor in Voice, brings her extensive experience and passion for French mélodie to the stage. With a repertoire that spans Romantic and 20th-century opera, oratorio, concert literature, and song, Amy has captivated audiences worldwide. She has released several acclaimed recordings, including Souvenance: Mélodies and Organ Works of César Franck. Amy has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and New Orleans Opera, and has graced concert series across France, including Vendredi Soirs at St. Pierre le Jeune and Les Estivales de St. Guillaume in Strasbourg. Stephen Ng, Tenor Stephen Ng, a celebrated tenor and Professor of Voice at West Chester University, is renowned for his "powerfully expressive voice" (Washington Post). His performances span opera, oratorio, recital, and contemporary music, with notable appearances at De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and the Lucerne Festival Academy under the direction of Pierre Boulez.
