INDIANAPOLIS- The Division II softball national committee released its second Regional Rankings of the year on Wednesday afternoon, and West Chester (29-18) was ranked sixth in the Atlantic Region in the first numerical ranking of the season.
Following a sweep of Shippensburg (not yet reflected in the rankings as this week's batch reflects games played on or before April 21), West Chester is one six PSAC teams in the top eight and one of seven in the top-10 as Gannon is currently among the first out, ranked ninth with a record of 21-11 on the year.
East Stroudsburg (36-12) and Shippensburg (30-12) hold the top two spots in the rankings followed by Charleston (39-2) in third, Bloomsburg (28-17) in fourth, and Kutztown (27-18) in fifth just ahead of the Golden Rams. Millersville (22-21), whom West Chester won three of four in the season series against, resides in seventh in the rankings followed by Glenville State (20-18) in eighth as the final team in the eight-team field if the NCAA Tournament began today.
After yesterday's sweep of the Raiders, marking the Golden Rams' first sweep of Shippensburg since 2021, West Chester has won three in a row and six of its last nine overall, catapulting itself into a tie for second place in the PSAC East heading into the final two doubleheaders of the regular season on Friday at home vs. Kutztown and on Saturday at Shepherd, with both sets starting at 1 p.m.
The final regional rankings of the year are due to be released next Wednesday (May 1) ahead of the Division II Softball Tournament Selection Show on Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m. The show will air on NCAA.com.
