Women's Tennis Falls to IUP in PSAC Semifinal Clash
BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's tennis team (9-12) returned to action on Friday afternoon in a PSAC Semifinal clash vs Indiana (Pa.) (14-8) at the Burt Reese Tennis Center at Bloomsburg. Making its 10th consecutive PSAC Semifinal appearance and 11th under the tutelage of head coach Tina Tharp, West Chester fell to the top-seeded Crimson Hawks by a 4-0 final on Friday afternoon to bring the 2023-24 season to its conclusion.
IUP claimed the doubles point to start the match as the pairs of Ming Deewajee/Daniela Ramos and Katy Graydon/Lydia Vlachou defeated West Chester pairs Tori Alexander (Norristown, Pa./Spring-Ford)/Delaney Tingle (Charlotte, N.C./Palm Desert High) and Gabriella Lerario Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Dante Alighieri)/Amber Nguyen (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) by 6-2 finals to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Now needing just three singles victories to advance to the Championship match, IUP got the wins it was looking for in fourth, fifth, and sixth singles as Vlachou defeated Yuno Oe (Yokohama, Japan/Nihon University Senior High) 6-1, 6-0, while Veronica Sirci defeated Felicia Manful (Berwyn,
Pa./Conestoga) by the same score and Hannah Beitat defeated Lerario Dos Santos 6-2, 6-0.
Tingle, Alexander, and Ashleigh Grooms (Newport, Ky./The Summitt Country Day School) completed the first set in their matches but saw the matches go unfinished as IUP clinched a spot in the Championship by a 4-0 final.
