Wilkinson Lecture Series An 'Ocean of Knowledge:' Transforming Values in Karnatak Teaching at Bi-Musical Institutions in South India Guest Lecturer: Rachel Schuck, University of North Texas This talk addresses transforming musical practices of Karnatak teachers (gurus) at bi-curricular music schools in South India. Rachel Schuck explores how Karnatak teachers mobilize their performance and pedagogy to grapple with roles and values that are increasingly commodified, secularized, and digitally mediated, and in doing so, position these institutions as gurus in contemporary neoliberal South India. The Wilkinson Lecture Series provides frequent exposure to research by leading scholars of music history and theory from other major research universities.
