Men's Soccer to Visit Southern Connecticut State on Saturday Afternoon
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Following a 2-0 setback against Wilmington on Wednesday, the West Chester University men's soccer team (1-1-0) will look to return to its winning ways on the road on Saturday as the Golden Rams face the Southern Connecticut State Owls (0-1-1) in Connecticut beginning at 4 p.m.

West Chester enters play on Saturday looking to rebound from a 2-0 shutout loss at the hands of Wilmington on Rockwell Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Rams fell to 5-5-2 in home openers under head coach Michael Benn with Wednesday afternoon's setback. West Chester tied Wilmington in shots at 21-21, although the Wildcats finished the game with an 11-7 lead in shots on goal, including their two first-half tallies. Despite the setback, Jaden Howard (Townsend, Del./Middletown) was excellent, making nine saves, including several leaping stops to keep the high-powered Wildcat offense at bay throughout the afternoon.

Four different Golden Rams all scored a goal in the season-opening victory at Jefferson last week as Owen Slack (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), Dillon Barbieri (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), Joseph Maxwell (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), and Peter Tichy (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) all scored their first goals of the season in that 4-2 win. Howard has been the starter in goal for the first two games, going 1-1-0 with 10 saves, a 71.4 % save percentage, and a 2.00 goals-against average.

West Chester will not open league play until October 1 vs Millersville; however, the Golden Rams have a plethora of critical non-league matchups ahead of them in September, including Saturday's contest in Connecticut, a home matchup with Mercy next Wednesday, a visit to Gannon on September 20, and a Senior Day battle with California on September 27.

West Chester's game against Holy Family, initially scheduled for September 6, has been officially rescheduled for Monday, November 3, at 2 p.m.

West Chester and SCSU met for the first time on Rockwell Field a year ago, and West Chester won by a 1-0 final on the strength of a 71st-minute goal by Maksym Komperda as he finished an assist from Jason Goldfeder. Jaden Howard earned the victory for West Chester, making a pair of saves to record the shutout.

Southern Connecticut State enters play on Saturday still searching for its first win of the season after dropping its season opener at Felician by a 4-0 final and playing to a 2-2 draw with Bridgeport on September 7.
Solomon Aidoo and Jeremy Martin both scored their first goals of the season on Sunday afternoon in the victory. Hector Diez Viota suffered the loss for SCSU in goal, allowing four goals with just two saves in the season opener, while Diego Flores earned the draw on Sunday, making six saves and allowing just two goals on 16 shots.
