Field Hockey Picked Fourth in PSAC Preseason Poll
LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) released its field hockey preseason coaches poll on Monday afternoon. West Chester was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC.
Defending National Champion, East Stroudsburg, was picked to win the PSAC with six first-place votes, while Shippensburg took second with a pair of first-place votes, followed by Kutztown in third with two first-place votes of its own. West Chester captured the fourth spot in the poll, followed by Millersville in fifth, Indiana (Pa.) in sixth, and Bloomsburg in seventh, with Mansfield, Slippery Rock, and Mercyhurst rounding out the poll.
West Chester enters the 2023 season after playing to a record of 15-5 overall and 6-3 in league action, advancing back to the National Semifinals for the eighth time in the last 11 years and the fourth year in a row. West Chester returns several key players from a year ago, including three of its top four goal scorers, headlined by Second Team All-American Claudia Jaszczak (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West), who was second on the team in goals a year ago with 15, including three game-winners. Fellow Second Team All-American Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) also returns to the Golden Rams in 2023 after scoring nine goals and assisting on seven others during the 2022 campaign. The Golden Rams can also look to speed threat Jasmine Miller (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor), who ranked third on the squad in scoring last year with 12 goals, including a pair of game-winners to go along with two assists.
West Chester opens its 2023 season with a trip to New England over Labor Day Weekend, beginning with a Friday night matchup at Assumption at 6 p.m. on September 1. The Golden Rams will kick off their home slate on September 12 against NCAA Tournament foe Adelphi before opening PSAC play at Slippery Rock on September 23.
