West Chester and Slippery Rock faceoff at 4 p.m. after the first semifinal featuring No. 12 Kutztown against host Seton Hill at 1 p.m. The winners of the two semifinals will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the 2024 PSAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Game.
West Chester is in search of its conference-best 26th crown this weekend and fifth in the last six years that a conference tournament was held. Golden Rams' head coach Ginny Martino is looking for her 15th title as leader of the purple & gold. The loop's coach of the year in the Eastern Division for the second straight season, Martino led her charges to an undefeated regular season for the second straight year as well.
The Golden Rams enter Friday making their 36th appearance in the PSAC Tournament. They have only missed the tournament five times since its inception in 1979. Martino has only missed the tournament once in her career on the sideline (2000). This is West Chester's 23rd straight campaign in the conference tournament. West Chester is an astounding 47-10 all-time in the PSAC Tournament.
However, the Golden Rams have never faced Slippery Rock in the postseason. The Rock is in the PSAC playoffs for just the third time ever and the first time since 2018. The Rock brought lacrosse back as a varsity sport at the Division II level in 2007 and made their first PSAC Tournament in 2017. Tuesday's quarterfinal round win over Lock Haven marked the first modern-era playoff victory for the program.
West Chester is No. 1 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll and No. 2 in the IWLCA coaches poll. Slippery Rock is receiving votes in both of the Division II national polls this week, including the IL Women/IWLCA coaches' top 25 poll and the USA Lacrosse Magazine top 20 poll.
West Chester is a perfect 15-0 all-time against Slippery Rock in a series that dates back to 1983. The teams have not met since 2019 when then fourth-ranked West Chester cruised to a 17-3 home win over The Rock.
