Women's Swimming and Diving Second After Day One of Total Performance Invitational

GAMBIER, Oh.- The West Chester University women's swimming and diving squad returned to action on Thursday night on the opening day of the Total Performance Invitational inside the James A. Steen Aquatics Center on the campus of Kenyon College
The mid-season meet is modeled after the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, with a prelim round in the morning and the finals at night. West Chester is second in the team standings with 455 points after the first day of competition, trailing only host Kenyon, who leads with 639 points. Hope College is third with 311, followed by Case Western Reserve in fourth with 265, and Carnegie Mellon in fifth with 217 points.
In the 200-free relay, Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County), and Sam Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) combined to finish third in a time of 1 minute and 34.35 seconds.
Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) took second in the 500 free with a time of 4:55.36, followed by Sophie Gearhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley) in fifth with a time of 5:00.69. This effort also served as an NCAA "B" cut time for both swimmers.
Kil led West Chester in the 200 IM, touching the wall in a time of 2:03.83, which served as an NCAA "B" cut time, while Hemingway finished eighth in 2:05.38.
Trumble finished second in the 50 free with a time of 23.42 seconds, which served as an NCAA "B" Cut time, while Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) was 10th in 24.20 seconds.
DiCarlo, Hemingway, Kil, and Trumble also teamed up to finish second in the 400-medley relay, clocking a time of 3:49.13.
West Chester returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the Invitational, with Prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.
