FROSTBURG, Md.- The West Chester University women's rugby team (4-3, 4-2) erased an early deficit and held off a furious Frostburg State (3-3, 2-2) comeback attempt late to cap off the regular season with a 30-20 road victory over the Bobcats.

FROSTBURG, Md.- The West Chester University women's rugby team (4-3, 4-2) erased an early deficit and held off a furious Frostburg State (3-3, 2-2) comeback attempt late to cap off the regular season with a 30-20 road victory over the Bobcats.

Frostburg State opened the scoring with a try midway through the first half to take a 5-0 lead before Evie Staehle (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) continued her outstanding rookie season with her second try of the year, five minutes later, to tie the match. Bridget Kowalski (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) added a try of her own moments later, which, after an Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) gave the Golden Rams a 12-5 lead. Davies added a penalty kick in the final moments of the first half to give West Chester a comfortable 15-5 lead.

West Chester led for much of the game and stretched its lead to 12 early in the second half when Sofia Lasonio (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was awarded a penalty try, which counts for both a try and a conversion. This occurred after Lasonio broke free for a 60-meter run and was illegally tackled just outside the goal line in a last-ditch effort to prevent the try.

Down the stretch of the match, Frostburg State showed its fight, unleashing a flurry of long runs and offensive attacks as the Bobcats mustered two unconverted trys to cut the lead to 22-20 with 10 minutes to play. Davies added another penalty kick, which extended the lead to 25-20 before Addy LaCarrubba (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) added her name to the scoring sheet with a final try to close out the 30-20 victory.
