Melvin Named NFCA Second Team All-Region
Full Team
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released its Division II softball All-Region squad on Thursday afternoon. Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) was the lone Golden Ram honored as the graduate student earned Second Team All-Region honors, marking the fourth year in a row in which she was honored in this fashion.
Melvin, who earned First Team All-League honors once again in 2024, is in the midst of a tremendous season, batting .417 with a .917 OPS entering the NCAA Tournament. Melvin has picked up 80 hits and scored 55 runs while also currently finding herself in the midst of a team-best 17-game hit streak and a 20-game on-base streak. The graduate student, who already holds the WCU and PSAC career hits, runs, and stolen base records, is closing in on the WCU single-season runs scored record, sitting just six runs shy of Bri Garber's 61 during the 2019 season. Melvin has also swiped 43 bases on 46 attempts, heading into the team's NCAA Tournament opener later this afternoon vs Gannon.
Melvin and West Chester will return to action at 2:30 today against seventh-seeded Gannon in an opening-round matchup at the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia. Gannon boasts one All-Region pick as Natalia Mallozzi (first base) joined Melvin on the second-team All-Region squad.
