Women's Soccer Falls to Millersville, 2-1
Box Score MILLERSVILLE, Pa.- Searching for its first PSAC East win of the season, the West Chester University women's soccer team (2-1-1, 0-1-1) took to the road on Wednesday night to renew its rivalry with Millersville (1-3-1, 1-2-1) under the lights of Pucillo Field. West Chester battled throughout the night and ended the evening with a +13 (21-8) lead in shots, but it was Millersville, who emerged victorious, defeating the Golden Rams by a 2-1 final on Wednesday night.
West Chester out shot the Marauders 12-4 in the first half and held a 7-3 lead in corners, but it was not enough to get an early goal as the match went to the break scoreless at 0-0.
Millersville scored the first goal of the game in the 48th minute when Ella Briggs drove a shot into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Marauders an early 1-0 lead.
West Chester countered 20 minutes later when Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) scored her second goal in as many games off an assist from Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) to tie the score at 1-1 as the match approached the 70th minute.
Unfortunately, the Marauders were not finished offensively as Aubrey Strohecker scored the second goal of the game and the eventual game-winner for Millersville in the 82nd minute with a shot into the upper right corner of the goal to restore a one-goal (2-1) lead for the hosts.
West Chester threatened down the stretch, but Sabrina Zimmerman made a pair of saves on shots by both Barber and Lauren Reimold (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) in the final eight minutes of the match as the Marauders held on for a 2-1 victory over the visiting Golden Rams.
Despite the loss, West Chester ended the game with a 21-8 lead in shots, an 11-3 lead in shots on goal, and a 10-3 lead in corners.
Sabrina Zimmerman was tremendous in goal for Millersville, making 10 saves to slow the normally dangerous Golden Ram offense, while Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made one stop in the loss.
