West Chester (1-0) enters the second week of the regular season coming off an impressive, 30-13 victory on the road over Northeast-10 preseason favorite Bentley one week ago. The defense allowed only 201 yards of total offense to the Falcons and just 10 first downs. In fact, Bentley only had the ball for 16 minutes, 46 seconds during the contest. West Chester will need to put forth an even better effort defensively to stifle one of the top offenses in the region, if not all of Division II.
Cal (1-0) is coming off a nine-day rest after beating No. 12 Charleston, 23-19, in the opening week of the season. The Vulcans climbed four places to No. 10 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Poll on Monday afternoon. They moved into the top 10 for the first time since the 2021 campaign when they reached as high as No. 3, matching the highest national ranking in program history. The Vulcans have been featured in the AFCA poll for eight consecutive weeks dating back to last season.
West Chester R-Fr., place-kicker, Rylan Zuk, took home PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week honors this past Monday. Zuk kicked three field goals and nailed all three of his extra points to finish with 12 points in last Saturday's victory over Bentley. He hit field goals of 25-yards, 32-yards and 24-yards, going 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts. He was a perfect 6-for-6 on all of his kicking attempts as well.
Meanwhile, Cal collected a pair of weekly accolades from the PSAC on Monday afternoon as well. Defensive back Alexie Sangster, Jr., was named the West Defensive Athlete of the Week and sophomore kicker Harry Radcliffe was tabbed the West Special Teams Athlete of the Week. Saturday's matchup features the two Specialists of the Week in the PSAC.
Senior quarterback Cooper Jordan for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another to lead West Chester to victory at Peter Yetten Field.
Jordan surpassed 2,000 career rushing yards in the victory becoming the 20th person in school history and the first QB to do so. He moved into 18th place on the school's all-time rushing list as a result. Perhaps overshadowed a bit by its flashy quarterback, the Golden Rams' defense pitched a shutout after halftime.
West Chester University returns home next Saturday, Sept. 20, for a 2 p.m. crossover showdown against Seton Hill University. This fall, WCU will transform Home Game Saturdays into an unforgettable Golden Rams adventure with a ton of new traditions like: a pre-game pep rally, Kids' Zone, live music, food, free Golden Rams swag and so much more.
