Women's Volleyball Finishes Non-League Play with 3-0 Victory over Dominican (N.Y.)

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Looking to halt its losing streak, the West Chester University women's volleyball team (10-13) took to the road on Wednesday night for its non-league finale against Dominican (N.Y.) (9-18). West Chester accomplished its mission impressively on Wednesday night, earning a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) victory over Dominican to end non-conference play on a high note before shifting its attention back to the final two weekends of PSAC East competition.

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Looking to halt its losing streak, the West Chester University women's volleyball team (10-13) took to the road on Wednesday night for its non-league finale against Dominican (N.Y.) (9-18). West Chester accomplished its mission impressively on Wednesday night, earning a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) victory over Dominican to end non-conference play on a high note before shifting its attention back to the final two weekends of PSAC East competition.

Brynn Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the team in kills with 12, ending her night with a .379 hitting percentage, while rookie Breanna Craig (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) added eight kills of her own on 10 swings in the victory.  Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Megan St. Jean (Eaton, Co./Eaton) kept the offense moving well throughout the night, finishing with 15 and 14 assists, respectively.

Defensively, Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton)led the team in digs with 16 while also chipping in a pair of aces. Dresibach finished the night with a double-double, logging 12 digs of her own and adding a block. Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) and Amanda Redding (San Marino, Ca./San Marino) tied for the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each, while Craig added three of her own in the victory.

In the opening set, West Chester got out to an early lead and never trailed, eventually claiming the opener by a 25-19 final, holding off a mid-set run by Dominican to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

The two sides traded points through the early part of the second set, but West Chester went on a 5-2 run to take a 10-8 lead early in the frame. West Chester continued this run, eventually stretching the lead to 16-9 midway through the second set, thanks to an 11-3 run, which eventually gave the visitors the separation needed to earn a 25-20 second set victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

With a commanding two-set lead, West Chester raced out to an early 6-2 lead in the third set. Dominican cut the deficit to 7-5, but West Chester responded with a quick 3-0 run to restore order and stretch its lead back to 10-5. The Chargers would not go away quietly on Wednesday evening, responding well to the Golden Rams run with a 7-2 run of their own to even the set at 12-12. West Chester and Dominican traded points until things were tied at 17-17 late in the set. The Golden Rams retook the lead with a 3-0 run, eventually using this run to earn a 25-19 third-set victory and complete the sweep of the Chargers.
