Women's Volleyball Earns 3-1 Road Victory over Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- Brynn Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) posted a team-high 11 kills to help lead the West Chester University women's volleyball team (11-13, 3-8) to a 3-1 (25-23, 17-15, 25-19, 25-21) victory over Kutztown (9-15, 2-9) on Friday night.

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- Brynn Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) posted a team-high 11 kills to help lead the West Chester University women's volleyball team (11-13, 3-8) to a 3-1 (25-23, 17-15, 25-19, 25-21) victory over Kutztown (9-15, 2-9) on Friday night.

West Chester picked up its second win of the week, building off the momentum from its 3-0 victory over Dominican (N.Y.) in its non-league finale on Wednesday night while also keeping its PSAC Tournament aspirations alive for another day.

In the first set, West Chester got an early 11-8 lead before Kutztown surged ahead with a 7-0 run, taking a 15-11 lead and prompting a quick WCU timeout. Out of the timeout, West Chester began its comeback, eventually evening things up at 18-18 before closing out the set with a Brynn Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) kill, closing out a 25-23 first-set victory for the Golden Rams.

Kutztown roared back in the second set, getting out to an early lead and not relinquishing this advantage, cruising to a 25-17 victory to even the match at 1-1, heading into the third set.

West Chester and Kutztown resumed trading points in the third set, but WCU snuck out to a 20-16 lead, entering the late stages of the set. With a late lead, West Chester used this advantage to earn a 25-19 third-set victory and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Golden Rams and Golden Bears continued to trade points through the early part of the fourth set, but West Chester again used a run to take a 14-10 lead midway through the set. Down the stretch of the fourth set, Dreisbach continued her big night, coming up with another big kill to stretch the lead to 21-14. Kutztown trimmed its deficit to 23-18, prompting a WCU timeout. Kutztown continued its comeback effort over the next few points, pulling back to within three (24-21) before a Tori Wright (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) kill closed out a 3-1 victory for the Golden Rams.

Dreisbach led the team in kills with 11, while the duo of Wright and Breanna Craig (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) residing in second and third with six and five kills each. Craig also tied with Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) for the team lead in blocks with three each, while Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the team in assists with 14.

Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) posted a team-best 21 digs, while Dreisbach added 15 of her own to go along with 12 from Wright in the victory. Heffner, Byrne, and sophomore Megan St. Jean (Eaton, Co./Eaton) also tied for the team lead in aces, finishing with two each on Friday evening.

For Kutztown, Gabriela Fialova had a big night, coming away with 23 kills and 18 digs as the lone Golden Bear with a double-double in the setback.
