Byrne and Lewis Named to Collegiate Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team
AUSTIN, Tx.- The Collegiate Sports Communicators released its Women's Volleyball Academic All-District teams on Tuesday afternoon, and West Chester landed a pair of Golden Rams on the squad as Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Hailey Lewis (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) were both honored as repeat selections from a year ago.
To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must have a 3.50 GPA and have played in 90 % of the institution's matches.
Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early January.
Lewis appeared in 25 matches with 23 starts this season, logging 147 kills, including a season-high 13 in the season finale vs Lock Haven on November 11. The senior middle blocker ended the year with a .260 hitting percentage and also picked up 53 blocks, including a season-high seven vs Kutztown on 9/29, to go along with 38 digs, nine aces, and four assists on the 2023 season.
For her part, Byrne appeared in all 27 matches with 20 starts, playing in 100 sets in her senior season. The senior setter logged a team-best 539 assists, averaging 5.39 per set, including a season-high 31 against Roberts Wesleyan in the season opener back on September 1. She also registered 144 digs, including a season-high 13 on October 7 at Lock Haven, along with 34 aces and 23 kills to cap off an outstanding career for West Chester. A multiple-time All-League choice during her career as a Golden Ram, Byrne ended her career seventh in team history in career assists with 2,337 to her name, averaging 7.8 per set, which ranks fourth best in program history.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
