Women's Volleyball Drops PSAC East Matchup to Shepherd, 3-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (9-13, 2-8) remained home on Saturday afternoon for the final game of its three-game homestand against Shepherd University (11-13, 6-4). With both sides looking to bounce back from losses on Friday night, Shepherd emerged victorious, earning a 3-1 (25-19, 25-10, 20-25, 25-18) victory over the Golden Rams on Saturday afternoon in Hollinger.

 WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (9-13, 2-8) remained home on Saturday afternoon for the final game of its three-game homestand against Shepherd University (11-13, 6-4). With both sides looking to bounce back from losses on Friday night, Shepherd emerged victorious, earning a 3-1 (25-19, 25-10, 20-25, 25-18) victory over the Golden Rams on Saturday afternoon in Hollinger.

West Chester and Shepherd traded points throughout the early going of the first set, but Shepherd took a 25-19 first-set victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Shepherd jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the second set, maintaining its lead as West Chester fought its way back into the set, trimming the deficit to 9-5 nearing the midway point. The visiting Rams went on an 11-2 run to take a 20-8 lead and never looked back, eventually earning a 25-10 second set victory and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
West Chester forced at least one more set with a third-set victory by a final of 25-20, holding off a late set run by the visitors to extend the match.
 
In the fourth, West Chester and Shepherd traded points early, but the visiting Rams pulled away late for a 25-18 fourth-set victory and a 3-1 match victory over the Golden Rams.  
 
Lexy Caltabiano (Woolwich Twp, N.J./GCIT) led the team in kills with 11, while Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) posted a team-best 16 assists along with 12 more from Megan St. Jean (Eaton, Co./Eaton) to help lead the Golden Rams in the setback. St. Jean also led the team in aces with three, while Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) contributed a team-best 19 digs on Saturday afternoon.

Jordan Pryor led Shepherd in kills with 13, while Joi Fairweather added nine of her own in the victory over the Golden Rams. Claire Ellis tied for the team and match lead in aces with five to go along with 15 digs, while Victoria Nicholes posted a team-best 41 assists in the victory.

West Chester returns to action on Wednesday evening at Dominican beginning at 7 p.m. in the first of a three-game road trip, which will be the Golden Rams' final matches away from home this season.
