Women's Volleyball Falls to East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa- Following a convincing 3-1 win over Kutztown on Friday night, the West Chester University women's volleyball team (11-14, 3-9) continued its road trip with a visit to PSAC East leader East Stroudsburg (20-5, 12-0) on Saturday afternoon. West Chester battled throughout the afternoon, but the host Warriors held off the upset-minded Golden Rams to remain unbeaten in East play, prevailing by a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) final.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa- Following a convincing 3-1 win over Kutztown on Friday night, the West Chester University women's volleyball team (11-14, 3-9) continued its road trip with a visit to PSAC East leader East Stroudsburg (20-5, 12-0) on Saturday afternoon. West Chester battled throughout the afternoon, but the host Warriors held off the upset-minded Golden Rams to remain unbeaten in East play, prevailing by a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) final.

East Stroudsburg started off the match with a 10-2 run, forcing West Chester into an early timeout.  Following the timeout, the Warriors continued their early set run, extending the lead to 20-6 over the visiting Golden Rams. Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) sparked a late run by West Chester, which allowed the Golden Rams to cut into the deficit late in the set with a 7-0 run, but the Warriors held on for a 25-13 victory to open the match.

West Chester and East Stroudsburg battled throughout the early part of the second set, as ESU held just a two-point (14-12) lead nearing the set's midway point. The Warriors used a quick 3-0 run to take a 17-12 lead, forcing a West Chester timeout before extending their lead to earn a 25-16 second-set victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was similarly back and forth in the early going, but West Chester did hold the lead in the early stages (7-5) thanks in part to a kill by Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion). East Stroudsburg did not trail for long, responding to the Golden Rams lead with another run to take a 19-10 lead entering the late stages of the third set. West Chester applied pressure late, closing the match on a 9-6 run, but ESU prevailed in the third set by a 25-19 final, taking a 3-0 victory in the match.  

Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) led West Chester in kills with six, followed by Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) with five of her own in the setback. Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the team in assists with 13, while Heffner led the way in digs with 21.

Anna Coulter led ESU in kills with 10, while Kaylee LoPresto finished with eight kills of her own in the victory. Taylor Haan led the Warriors in aces (2) and assists (28), while Makayla Baca led the team in digs with 21 of her own on Saturday afternoon in the Warriors regular season home finale.

West Chester returns home for action to play in its final two matches of the regular season, hosting Bloomsburg at 7 p.m. Friday, November 10th followed by Lock Haven on Saturday, November 11th at 1 p.m. in Holliger on what will also be Senior Day for the Golden Rams.
