Women's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season With Victory at Rain-Soaked Purple and Gold Invitational

West Chester, Pa.- The West Chester University women's track and field team opened its 2024 Outdoor season on Saturday afternoon inside a rain-soaked John A. Farrell Stadium for the team's annual Purple and Gold Invitational. Battling rain that soaked the Delaware Valley for much of the day, West Chester turned in an outstanding performance in its abbreviated season opener, winning multiple events and turning in a host of top-five finishes to capture the team title with 139 points

Battling rain that soaked the Delaware Valley for much of the day, West Chester turned in an outstanding performance in its abbreviated season opener, winning multiple events and turning in a host of top-five finishes to capture the team title with 139 points

In the Women's 100-meter hurdles, Kamryn Fontaine (DuBois, Pa./ DuBois Area) and Amanda Marquis (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) placed second and third, respectively, running times of 17.72 and 18.14 seconds.

The sprints group continued to impress in the 100-meter dash. Brianna Ribic (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) crossed the finish line in 13.69 to take sixth place. Jade Salmon (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) came in ninth with a time of 13.93.

 Lily Palacio-Lewis (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was victorious in the 200m with a time of 27.15. Right behind her for second place was Gabrielle Curtis (Harrisburg, Pa./C.D. East) with a time of 27.80.  Genevieve McDonald (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) placed third running a time of 27.90.

McDonald was also victorious in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 1 minute 05:64 seconds.

In the 800-meter dash, four Golden Rams placed inside the top ten. Kristina Tapia (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) was victorious crossing the line in 2:37.32. Following her lead was Ellie Goldberg (West Deptford, NJ./West Deptford), coming in second place with a time of 2:39.32.  Joli Golembiewski (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) placed fifth with a time of 2:50.89. Grace O'Brien (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) placed seventh, running a time of 2:56.12.

In the women's 1500, Josey George (Oxford, Ga./ Walnut Grove) led the way, running a time of 5:13.02 for fourth place. Anna Quackenbush (Oakton, Va./Oakton) came in ninth, running a time of 5:26.76 seconds. Right behind her was Jenny Weiss (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) , who ran a time of 5:27.87.

In the Women's 400-Meter Hurdles, Kamryn Fontaine (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Area) placed third with a time of 1:20.15, and Jade Williams (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) placed fourth with a time of 1:30.53.

In the 4x100 relay the Golden Rams A team took home first place with a time of 49.74.

In the Women's Discus Throw, Emma Deyarmin (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) took first overall with a throw of 28.32 meters.  

In the hammer throw Adrianna Bryant (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) placed first with a throw of 110 feet and 4 inches. Emma Deyarmin (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) placed third with a throw of 87' 0".  Kayla Lockburner (Hillsborough, N.J. Hillsborough) came in fourth with a throw of 84' 5". Jaclyn Borkly (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) finished in seventh with a throw of 80' 2". Sydney Pearson (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) placed eighth with a throw of 75'1". Gabrielle Ruiz (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) threw for a mark of 65' 5" good for 10th place.
