Hemingway 12th in 200 IM; WCU in 13th After Day 2 at NCAAs

GENEVA, OHIO – Senior McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) placed 12th in the 200-yard individual medley Wednesday on the second day of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the Spire Institute.

West Chester earned 34 points on Wednesday and currently sits in 13th place in the team standings. Nova Southeastern leads the field with 155 points while Drury is second with 124.5 points.
 
Hemingway swam a lifetime best in the 200 IM during the morning session to earn an evening swim in that event. Her time of 2 minutes, 2.58 seconds seeded her 13th. However, she bettered that mark with a 2:02.49 to move up one spot and earn five points for the Golden Rams at night.
 
Danielle Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) posted a career-best 10:07.41 in the 1000 freestyle to place 12th overall in the timed final. Teammate Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) was right behind her in 13th with a time of 10:08.52. They picked up five and four points, respectively, for the Golden Rams. Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) turned in a lifetime best of 10:11.55 with teammate Sophie Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) right behind her in 10:12.04, which was a personal best for her as well.
 
West Chester's 200 medley relay team of Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), Hemingway, Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Samantha Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) earned two points for their 16th-place showing.
 
West Chester continues on Day 3 at the NCAAs Thursday with prelims in the morning at 10 a.m. in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 200 free. Finals in those events get under way Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. along with the 400 medley relay.
