West Chester Women’s Swimming Pulls Away on Day 3

CARLISLE, PA – West Chester University's women's swim team continues to pull away from the rest of the field at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships inside the Keystone Aquatics Center in Carlisle Friday evening.
 
West Chester's third straight title, 17th in the last 18 years, and 21st overall is a foregone conclusion right now with one more night to go Saturday. The Golden Rams have 1,265 points and are comfortably in first place.
 
Senior Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) won her third individual conference crown of the week while successfully defending her two-year title in the 500-yard freestyle. Durkin has now won nine PSAC titles in her college career. Classmate Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) was runner-up to Durkin while Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) placed fourth and junior Danielle Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) was fifth. Caitlin Hamill (Collegeville, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was eighth.
 
Freshman Anna Evans (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) continued her spectacular conference meet with a runner-up showing in the 100 backstroke. Junior Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) was fourth.
 
West Chester put four swimmers in the finals of the 100 breaststroke. McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) won the PSAC crown while junior Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College) was runner-up. Sophomore Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) was seventh and classmate Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) eighth.
 
The final event of the evening, the 200 butterfly, Gerhart picked up a conference title with a first-place finish. Amy Masciulli (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) was fourth and Mallory Pardoe (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) sixth.
 
West Chester returns to action Saturday morning with prelims at 10 a.m. in the 100 free, 200 back, 200 breaststroke and the 1650 free. Finals in those events, except for the mile, begin at 5:30 p.m.
