West Chester’s 800 Free Relay Places Ninth on Day One of NCAA Championships

GENEVA, OHIO – West Chester University's 800-yard freestyle relay team placed ninth during the timed finals on the opening night of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships at the Spire Institute Tuesday evening.

GENEVA, OHIO – West Chester University's 800-yard freestyle relay team placed ninth during the timed finals on the opening night of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships at the Spire Institute Tuesday evening.
 
Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County), Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) clocked a time of 7 minutes, 22.33 seconds swimming in Lane 1 of the first heat.
 
The Golden Rams, who were seeded 15th in the event, slid up six spots in the timed finals.
 
The championships will get under way in earnest Wednesday morning with prelims in the 200 individual medley, and the 50 and 1000 free beginning at 10 a.m. Finals in those events, plus the 200 medley relay will take place in the evening session beginning at 5:30 p.m.
