Women's Rugby Opens 7's Season at Frostbite Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's rugby team kicked off its Spring 2024 7's season on Sunday afternoon at the Annual Lancaster Frostbite 7's Tournament. West Chester entered two sides in the Tournament and the two teams went a combined 3-3 on the day with the Purple team playing to a record of 1-2, while the Gold squad went 2-1.

LANCASTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's rugby team kicked off its Spring 2024 7's season on Sunday afternoon at the Annual Lancaster Frostbite 7's Tournament. West Chester entered two sides in the Tournament and the two teams went a combined 3-3 on the day with the Purple team playing to a record of 1-2, while the Gold squad went 2-1.
 
The Golden Rams Purple team started the day with a 38-0 victory over Pittsburgh before falling to NIRA rival American International College (AIC) by a 38-7 final. Purple dropped its final match of the day to St. Bonaventure by a 12-0 final. Ty Hickey (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) led the Purple squad with three trys and three conversions for 21 points to go along with a pair of trys from captain Faith Morley (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West).
 
Camryn Snow (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) also scored her first career 7's try for the Purple squad.
 
The Golden Rams Gold team went 2-1 on the day with victories over George Washington University (41-0) and Pitt-Johnstown (36-0) and a setback against West Virginia University (22-0). In the victory over GW, Bridget Kowalski (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) picked up a hat trick, logging an impressive three trys in the victory. Keeley Fugazzi (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) who helps captain the Gold team, scored 32 points with 4 trys and six conversions on opening day.
 
"Today was a great day to evaluate where we stand at the beginning of the season," said head coach Tony DeRemer. "After six games today and a lot of playing time for each player, we look forward to a few weeks of practice before our home Tournament on March 30."
 
The Golden Rams will host their annual home 7's Tournament on March 30 on South Campus before concluding the regular season with April visits to Princeton (4/14) and Frostburg State (4/21).
 

Latest Women's Rugby
