WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's rugby team won its WCU 7's Tournament today for the second year in a row, going a combined 5-1-1. The Championship-Winning Purple side went a perfect 4-0.

The purple team, led by Ty Hickey's (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) 4 trys and a conversion (22 points), took down Princeton, University of New Haven, and Kutztown before beating Mount St. Mary's in the battle of the unbeatens (both teams were 3-0 at that point).

"I am proud of the team for how we played offensively and defensively today, but I am extremely happy about the way we distributed the scoring. Eight different players scored trys, and an additional player scored points on conversions. With the team spreading our scoring between nine different players, it shows that we have some firepower throughout our lineup," said head coach Tony DeRemer.

Sofia Lasonio (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) tallied four trys on the day, while Camryn Snow (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) had three trys.  Jade McCool (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) scored her first career try as a Golden Ram.

West Chester Purple started off the day by beating Princeton 17-10 in a hard-fought match and then taking down the University of New Haven 26-0. West Chester then took down their fellow PSAC opponent, Kutztown, 48-0, and then faced Mount St Mary's. The game was very physical, and the lead was changing hands frequently until West Chester pulled ahead in the final minutes, 19-12.

In Group B, the gold team was led by freshman Laura Smego (Greenwich, Ct./Greenwich), who tallied two trys and a conversion for 12 points on the day.  The gold team finished 1-1-1 and had other stand-out performances during their matches.  Lilly Rhode (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) had a try and two conversions for 9 points, and Keeley Fugazzi's (Dublin, Oh/Dublin) foot led her to two conversions for the tournament.  Ashlyn Wissler also tallied a try for the gold team.
