Women's Rugby Finishes Opening Day of Collegiate Rugby 7's Championships 1-1

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The West Chester University women's rugby team returned to action on Saturday morning at the Collegiate Rugby 7's National Championships in our Nation's Capital. Competing in the women's premiere cup, West Chester went 1-1 on the day, winning its opening match over Southern Nazarene by a 17-5 final before falling to Brown in the National Quarterfinals by a 41-0 final.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The West Chester University women's rugby team returned to action on Saturday morning at the Collegiate Rugby 7's National Championships in our Nation's Capital. Competing in the women's premiere cup, West Chester went 1-1 on the day, winning its opening match over Southern Nazarene by a 17-5 final before falling to Brown in the National Quarterfinals by a 41-0 final.

Against Southern Nazarene, Sofia Lasonio (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored a pair of trys to lead the team in scoring with 10 points, while Faith Morley (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) added a try of her own along with a successful conversion by Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) as the Golden Rams posted an impressive 17-5 victory to open the Championships.

With a spot in Sunday's National Semifinals on the line, West Chester battled old nemesis Brown and fought hard throughout the match but fell to the higher-seeded bears by a 41-0 final.

Following this setback, West Chester will return to action tomorrow morning in the Plate Semifinal vs Penn State beginning at 10:10 a.m.
