No. 2 West Chester Downs Shippensburg, 19-8
SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored five times, and the Golden Rams' bench notched 10 goals, as second-ranked West Chester claimed a 19-8 victory over host Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division (PSAC) women's lacrosse match at Robb Sports Complex Wednesday.
West Chester (12-0, 7-0 PSAC East) and Shippensburg (2-11, 0-8) were knotted at 3-apiece with two minutes to play in the opening quarter. That is when the Golden Rams scored eight unanswered goals to blow out to an 11-3 advantage before the break.
Amanda Wolfe (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) netted three of her career-high four goals during the decisive run. Wolfe and Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) scored up goals 27 seconds apart in that run as well. It was one of O'Donnell's two markers on the afternoon.
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored twice and assisted on another while Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) picked up three assists. Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) registered a hat trick off the bench for the Golden Rams.
Eliza Enriquez (Shillington, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) led the team with six draw controls in a relief effort. She also contributed a pair of goals and an assist. Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) scooped up five draws, along with Edinger, in her first college start. Natalie Goldsmith (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) led the team with seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Stanislawczyk picked up four ground balls and four draw controls to go along with her five-goal effort.
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made three saves in 47 minutes of action in the cage to move to 12-0 on the year in goal. She moved into third place on the school's all-time wins chart with 47. She is 47-2 in her college career. Wednesday also moved her into second place in career appearances by a goalkeeper. Only Jen Roman (65) appeared in more college games in the cage than Gorr from 2001 to 2004.
West Chester returns home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown with No. 25 Bloomsburg at Vonnie Gros Field. Saturday will be Julia Rossi Tribute Day, along with Alumni Day.
