No. 2 West Chester Outlasts The Weather and No. 15 Kutztown, 16-9
WEST CHESTER, PA – Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored nine goals and assisted on four more, and Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) tallied four goals off the bench, as second-ranked West Chester downed No. 15 Kutztown, 16-9, to take over sole possession of first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings.
West Chester (9-0, 4-0 PSAC East) weathered a 93-minute lightning delay just five minutes into the contest, and then sloshed its way to a very important women's lacrosse victory over Kutztown (7-2, 3-1) at Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday evening.
Stanislawczyk moved into the Top 20 in Division II with 245 career goals now as she continues to move up the charts. She potted three of her five markers in the first quarter, helping the Golden Rams open up a 4-2 advantage after one quarter and one lightning stoppage.
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Wasdick each tallied twice in the second quarter as West Chester opened up a five-goal lead heading into the break. Stanislawczyk scored two more times in the fourth quarter while Wasdick added another as West Chester closed out the final 15 minutes with five goals. Kutztown had closed the gap to four (11-7) after three quarters. But, the purple & gold regrouped and put the game away late.
West Chester netted seven goals with an extra attacker, which is believed to be a school record in a single game. Official records on EMO goals have not been kept until recently.
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made 11 saves, including some dazzling stops in the fourth quarter, to earn her ninth win of the season and 44th of her career to move into fifth place all-time at the school. Wednesday was her 61st career game, tying her with Mary Beth Green (2006-09) for second all-time at WCU. She is four appearances behind Jen Roman (2001-04) who holds the school record with 65 games played in goal.
Kutztown goalkeeper, Jenna Blesson, made 15 saves and played a marvelous game in the cage as well. The Golden Bears' Sam Graf and Lailah ElBouazzaoui each scored twice. Both of Graf's goals came while down a player on the field.
Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) registered four points (1G, 3A), and Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) scored twice and picked up one assist. Edinger contributed two goals and an assist. She also collected four draw controls. Stanislawczyk led the team with eight draw controls.
West Chester returns to action on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. for another PSAC East matchup with Shepherd University.
