No. 2 West Chester Downs Shepherd, 20-11; Martino Picks Up Win No. 400
SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV – Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored 10 goals, goalkeeper Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) registered her 50th career win, and head coach Ginny Martino notched her 400th career victory as No. 2 West Chester topped host Shepherd, 20-11, Saturday.
West Chester (15-10, 10-0 PSAC East) remained unbeaten on the year with its second win over Shepherd (5-10, 3-8) this spring.
Martino becomes just the eighth head coach at any level of the NCAA to reach the 400-win plateau, and she did it while her goalkeeper became just the second Golden Rams lacrosse goalie to hit 50 wins in a career.
Stanislawczyk scored three goals in a little over three minutes during the third quarter that helped the visitors turn a 14-9 game into a 17-10 contest heading into the fourth. Stanislawczyk scored five goals in the first half and five more in the second for her 10-goal output. That total is tied for the second most in a game with four other individuals. It is the most goals a West Chester player has scored in a game since Katelyn Martin set the school record with 11 in a game in 2005.
Gorr played 54 minutes and was credited with nine saves. She is just one win shy of tying the school record held by Mary Beth Green for career wins (51). Gorr and Green are the only two Golden Rams keepers to reach 50 wins in a career.
Amanda Wolfe (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) and Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) each recorded hat tricks in the win as well.
West Chester heads to Kutztown next Wednesday for a showdown with the Golden Bears at 4 p.m.
