No. 2 West Chester Pulls Away in Second Half For 19-11 Win
WEST CHESTER, PA – Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored six goals and finished with 10 points as second-ranked West Chester University pulled away from No. 25 Bloomsburg in the second half en route to a 19-11 victory at wind-swept, but sunny, Vonnie Gros Field Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (13-0, 8-0 PSAC East) remained unbeaten and in first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings while Bloomsburg (8-5, 4-5) is fighting for a playoff spot down the stretch.
Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), Amanda Wolfe (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) and Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) each contributed a hat trick as well.
The Golden Rams outscored the Huskies, 5-2, in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach – thanks mainly to its work on draws. West Chester held a 21-12 advantage on draw controls in the game while ground ball totals were slanted towards the home team by a 20-12 margin.
Littlewood scored two of her three goals right at the beginning of the fourth quarter to push a 14-9 lead to 16-9. That ended any hopes of a comeback for the visitors. Though, Bloomsburg's Madison Coyle did score three of her team-high four goals after halftime.
Stanislawczyk sparked a five-goal run at the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third that broke a 5-5 deadlock and gave West Chester some breathing room. Three of the senior's six goals on the day came during that decisive spurt. Little wood and Wolfe added tallies as well.
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made 13 saves in the cage to remain perfect on the year. Saturday was her 65th appearance in goal for the Golden Rams, which ties former West Chester legend Jen Roman (2001-04) for most appearances in a career by a goalkeeper in school history.
Her counterpart at the other end of the field, Lauren Foley, made 14 saves to keep Bloomsburg in the contest.
West Chester hosts another nationally ranked opponent when rival East Stroudsburg comes to town next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
