No. 3 Kutztown Downs No. 7 West Chester, 2-1
KUTZTOWN, PA – Host Kutztown University took just 46 seconds to get on the scoreboard and never looked back en route to a 2-1 victory over West Chester University Wednesday evening at Andre Reed Stadium.
West Chester (8-6, 3-4 PSAC), in the midst of a three-game losing streak, avoided the shutout and drew within a goal with six minutes left. However, Kutztown (11-2, 5-2) held off the late surge to finish out the league win.
Jessica Traynor put the Golden Bears on the board with her fourth of the season in the first minute of play. Megan Doyle later added an insurance tally in the 39th minute.
West Chester's Jasmine Miller (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) notched her league-leading 16th goal of the season in the 54th minute. But, that was as close as the visitors would get.
Alina Burger (Konigs Wuersterhausen, Brandenburg, Germany) made five saves in the cage for West Chester.
West Chester travels to Mansfield on Saturday. The Golden Rams defeated the Mounties 4-3 in overtime in a non-league clash at Vonnie Gros Field earlier in the season.
