ORLANDO, FL – West Chester University's cheerleading squad won the National Championship in the Open All-Girl GameDay competition Friday night at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Championships held a Disney World Resort.

West Chester competed in three rounds against 38 colleges from all over the country in the college nationals. The Golden Rams registered the highest score in each round along the way to the title. The Golden Rams posted a score of 98.8 in finals. That score stood as the highest of all of the Gameday divisions for the day – including co-ed squads from Division I schools.

"This team is truly special," first-year head coach Jacqueline Kline stated. "To accomplish what they did with a new coach that stared so late, is remarkable.

"My first practice with them was August 28th. We learned our routine the weekend of December 2nd while attending the West Chester Christmas Parade and two basketball doubleheaders. "This truly took grit, confidence, hardwork and passion. This team was led by four captains that had a vision and never stopped until it came true. Seniors Charli Culbert, Kira Bhuta, junior Sarah hogan and sophomore Jules Hunt provided excellent leadership. We concentrated on preparation and building trust. Especially putting their trust in a new coach with new ideas and values."

West Chester's cheer squad returns from Florida on Monday. University of Rhode Island was runner-up with a score of 98.4667 and Sacred Heart University (Conn.) was third with a 98.4.
