Men's Track and Field Finishes Eighth at PSAC Championships; Rivers Wins Triple Jump Crown
BETHLEHEM, Pa.- Will Rivers (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) added to his growing trophy case with a victory in the triple jump to lead the West Chester University men's track and field squad on day two of the 2023-24 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. West Chester finished eighth in the team standings at the Championships, finishing with 28.5 points for the two-day event.
Rivers got things started for West Chester on Monday morning, leaping to a mark of 48 feet 4 ½ inches to capture the PSAC Triple Jump crown and earn the first medal of his stellar Golden Ram career. Rivers remains in contention for the Division II Track and Field National Championships after his outstanding leap of 48-6 ¾ earlier this season at the Bow Tie Invitational.
In the final round of the 400, Colin Althoff (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) ran a time of 50.39 seconds for fourth place on the podium, narrowly missing out on all-conference honors.
In the mile, Philip Smith (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) ran for a time of 4:25.14 for an 11th-place finish.
In the 800, Josh Miller (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) placed eighth with a time of 1:58.57, securing a spot on the podium and scoring an important point for the Golden Rams.
In the shot put, Derrick Lukomski-Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) put the shot a distance of 46-3 ½, which was good enough for 12th place.
West Chester concluded the PSAC Championships with an 11th place in the 4x400 as the quartet of Althoff, Kamal Adegbite (Upper Darby, Pa/Upper Darby), Jack Wasserman (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), and Drew Gallen (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) teamed up to cross the line in 3:31.32.
