Men’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season Saturday

WEST CHESTER, PA – As the end of March approaches, the Golden Rams track & field squads shifts its' focus to the outdoor portion of the 2024 schedule as West Chester hosts the Purple & Gold Invitational inside John A. Farrell Stadium to lift the lid on the outdoor campaign.

WEST CHESTER, PA – As the end of March approaches, the Golden Rams track & field squads shifts its' focus to the outdoor portion of the 2024 schedule as West Chester hosts the Purple & Gold Invitational inside John A. Farrell Stadium to lift the lid on the outdoor campaign. 

The Golden Rams have a contingent of home meets in April in addition to some local meets at Widener University and an appearance at the Penn Relays, before heading to Shippensburg University for the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. West Chester will conclude its season with a WCU Invitational giving people one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Emporia State from May 23 to May 25.
 
At the 2024 PSAC Indoor Championships, West Chester finished eighth in part to the efforts by Will Rivers (Manheim Pa./Manheim Central), Sammy Jenkins (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), Josh Miller (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Colin Althoff (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco), Derrick Lukomski-Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), and Nicholas Page (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel).

In the jumps, Page and Rivers look to continue their success from the indoor season. Rivers comes into the outdoor season with an impressive showing at the PSAC Indoor Championships as he took home the crown in the Triple Jump with a mark of 48-feet, 4 ½ inches. Rivers also secured PSAC all-conference honors for the first time in his career.
 
Page placed sixth in the PSAC Indoor Championships with a mark of 22-11 ¾ and will look to continue that success as the outdoor season kicks off.
 
Althoff leads the way in the sprints group where he ran for a time of 50.39 seconds in the 400-meter dash in the 2024 PSAC Indoor Championships placing fourth in the event. Jenkins leads the way for the pole vaulters looking to replicate his success from the 2024 PSAC Indoor Championships where he placed seventh with a mark of 14-7 ½.

At his first PSAC Indoor Championships, Derrick Lukomski-Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) placed sixth with a mark of 51-6 ½. He looks to continue to lead the way for the throws group this outdoor season.
 
On the distance side, the Golden Rams look to continue their strong showing from the indoor season. Miller led the way in the 800m with a time of 1:58.57 for an eighth-place finish at the 2024 PSAC Indoor Championships. He also followed up that impressive showing as part of the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) with fellow teammates Jack Wasserman (Perkasie, Pa./ Pennridge), Billy Zane (Springfield, Pa./Springfield DELCO) and Philip Smith (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) placing fourth with a time of 10:21.95.
