Men's Track and Field Sixth After Day One of PSAC Indoor Championships
BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The West Chester University men's track and field squad kicked off the 2023-24 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Lehigh University on Sunday afternoon. After the first day of competition, West Chester resides in sixth on the team leaderboard with 12.5 points to its name.
In the Men's Long Jump, Nicholas Page (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) started things off with a leap of 22 feet 11 ¾ inches, good for sixth place. This was a quarter inch short of his personal best from his freshman season campaign. This marks the second time he has made the podium in his career. Will Rivers (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) also leapt to a mark of 22-1 in the long jump for a 10th-place finish narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals. He will be back in action tomorrow for the triple jump as he comes in as the number one seed.
In the first round of the Men's 400, Colin Althoff (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) competed as the lone Golden Ram in the event, running a time of 50.54 seconds and winning his heat, upsetting the number one overall seed in the field from Seton Hill. The senior finished in sixth place on day one and will look to improve on his stellar performance in the finals tomorrow.
In the Men's Pole Vault, Sammy Jenkins (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) vaulted to a mark of 14-7 ½ for seventh place on the podium, while Devon Carlson-Swank (Elliotsville, Pa./Connections Charter) cleared a mark of 14-1 ¾ for 10th place.
In the Men's Weight Throw, Derrick Lukomski-Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the way for West Chester with a personal best throw of 51-6 ¼ for a sixth-place podium finish. Ben Thornton (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum [Del.]) also placed 11th with a throw of 48-3 ½.
Kamal Adegbite (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) ran a time of 7.08 seconds in the 60-meter dash for a 14th-place finish in the preliminary round. This also serves as a personal best time for the rookie.
In the Men's 5k, Jason Vogt (Southampton, Pa./William Tennent) placed 22nd, running a time of 16:42.01.
In the Men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR), the quartet of Josh Miller (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Jack Wasserman (Perkasie, Pa./ Pennridge), Billy Zane (Springfield, Pa./Springfield DELCO) and Philip Smith (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) placed fourth with an impressive time of 10:21.95.
