INDIANAPOLIS- West Chester University men's swimming and diving had three individuals qualify in seven events for the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships while the 200 and 400-free relay teams also qualified for the National Championships beginning on March 12.
The Championships will held March 12-16 at the Spire Institute Aquatics Center in Geneva, Ohio. Tickets are available for purchase here.
Sophomore Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) qualified in three events for West Chester and will compete in the 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, and 1650 free, entering as the 20th seed in the 500 with a time of 4 minutes 26.10 seconds, the ninth seed in the 1000 with a time of 9:10.42 and fifth in the 1650 free with a time of 15:14.61. Coming off a PSAC Championship in the 1650 free and a second-place finish in the 500 free, Demesy will make his second appearance at the National Championships after also qualifying a year ago in the 1000 and 1650 free.
Daniel Dunnigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) will take the pool alongside Demesey in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 free, entering as the 14th seed in the 500, his highest seed coming in. Dunnigan enters the Championships after a third-place finish in the 500 free and a second-place finish in the 1650 free at the PSAC Championships earlier this month.
Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) is another multiple event qualifier for West Chester, entering in both the 400 IM as the 13th seed with a time of 3:53.61 along with the 200 IM, ranked 22nd with a time of 1:48.10. Nagy will also compete in the 500 free with a b-cut time of 4:30.96 and the 200 back with another b-cut time of 1:47.87. Nagy will look to build off a stellar performance at the PSAC Championships, which saw him score 72 points for the Golden Rams, earn victories in the 200 and 400 IM with times of 1:48.10 and 3:53.61, while also finishing fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:30.96 and second in the 200 back in 1:47.87.
West Chester also qualified its 200 free relay and 400 free relay squads for the Championships. Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown), Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) will all travel as relay only swimmers for the Golden Rams are likely to help form those 200 and 400 free relay squads.
