HOW THEY GOT HERE
West Chester, which had appeared in the NCAA Super Region 1 polls each of the three weeks, climbed to No. 7 in the final poll. However, a 2-1 upset over third-ranked Gannon in the PSAC Championship Game solidified the Golden Rams' spot in the Top 10. It then became a matter of where the purple & gold would end up with that signature win under their belt. West Chester shows a 3-3-3 record against the rest of the Super Region 1 field heading into the tournament. Post captured its fifth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) title on Sunday. The Eagles are 0-1-1 against the rest of the Super Region 1 field.
West Chester finished in second place in the PSAC Eastern Division regular-season standings and reached the conference finals in the postseason tournament. Post finished in first place atop the CACC standings with a 9-0-2 mark against the other 11 schools in the conference. The Eagles won the CACC Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Bridgeport in the finals on Sunday.
PLEASED TO MAKE YOUR ACQUAINTANCE
West Chester and Post have never met before on the men's soccer pitch. This second-round matchup will be the first between the two institutions. However, it will be West Chester's fourth match against a CACC school. The Golden Rams are 2-0-1 in those contests with wins over Jefferson and Holy Family and a tie against Wilmington (Del.) to start the year. Jefferson was the 5-seed and Wilmington the 4-seed in the CACC Tournament. Holy Family finished 10th and did not qualify for the postseason.
WHERE DO THEY GO FROM HERE
The winner of Saturday's second-round match advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner of Bloomsburg vs. Franklin Pierce on November 30, or December 1, at the site of the highest remaining seed in the region. Bloomsburg, the eighth-seed in Super Region 1, defeated ninth-seeded Southern New Hampshire 2-1 in a first-round match Thursday afternoon. Franklin Pierce, the top seed in the Super Region, received a first-round bye.
