West Chester Lands Four on All-PSAC East Squad
LOCK HAVEN, PA – West Chester University put four players on the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-Eastern Division squad it was announced Wednesday afternoon. Three of the four selections were first-team honorees with another as a second-team pick.
Jr., WR D'Shaun Seals (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep), Jr., LB Connor Noble (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) and R-So., OL Patrick Methlie (Avondale, Pa./Salesianum [Del.]) were all first-team players while R-Sr., DT Ayyub Dail (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) was a second teamer.
Seals is the only repeat performer from West Chester University on the all-league squad. He was a second-team pick at wide receiver a year ago. The speedy wideout caught a team-high 44 passes for 616 yards and one touchdown. He also ran the ball 21 times for 121 yards. He ranked second on the team in all-purpose yards with 872 yards to his credit. Seals averaged 14 yards per catch and 5.8 yards per rush. He also returned seven punts for 135 yards, averaging 19.3 yards per return. He brought one punt back 60 yards for a touchdown. He was the main reason that West Chester ranked second in the PSAC in punt returning as a team.
Noble certainly made his presence felt his first year in purple & gold. The Temple transfer led the team and ranked second in the league in tackles with 106 stops. He ranked second on the team in both tackles for a loss and sacks with 10 and 5, respectively. He broke up three passes and led the squad with seven QB hurries. He forced one fumble and recovered two others.
Methlie was part of an offensive line that returned completely intact from a year ago, and the red-shirt freshman picked up right where he led off for another stellar sophomore campaign. Holding down the left tackle position once again this fall, Methlie blocked for the fifth-ranked offense in the PSAC while West Chester's total offense was sixth. He has appeared in and started 21 of 22 games in his two years as the Golden Rams' starting left tackle.
Dail enjoyed a stellar fifth-year campaign clogging things up in the middle of field. Often times, he was called on to do the dirty work in the trenches that doesn't make the stat sheet at the end of the game. But, Dail still finished with 34 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss, and three sacks.
The major award winners in the Eastern Division went to three individuals from Kutztown University and another from Lock Haven. Golden Bears Tyler Whary was named Defensive Athlete of the Year, Judd Novak was named Freshman of the Year and KU head coach Jim Clements was named Coach of the Year. After an outstanding season running the ball, Lock Haven's Chris Collier was selected as Offensive Player of the Year.
The all-conference teams and major award winners were selected by the league's head coaches.
