– Sr., DB Izaiah McPherson (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) tied a school record with three interceptions, and R-Fr., RB Dayshawn Jacobs (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns, as West Chester sent head coach Bill Zwaan into retirement with a 34-7 season-ending victory over Clarion at John A. Farrell Stadium Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (6-5) intercepted five passes in all to keep Clarion (2-9) at bay the entire afternoon. It marked the 217th and final win of Zwaan's storied head coaching career in college football with so many of his friends and family and former players, both at Widener and West Chester, in attendance.

"I am so happy that the guys played so well today," Zwaan said afterwards. "For Izaiah to have three interceptions on his senior day, well, you saw how excited the team was about that. They love him. What a great kid he is.

"It was such a great day with emotions up and down. I couldn't really tell how I felt half the time. I tried NOT to let my feelings get in the way. It was a good game, and I feel great. I am walking out a winner and it's been an incredible journey. I have a ton of stories to tell now."

McPherson's three picks tied the school record set by Jim McCullough in 2003. However, it has been two decades since a defensive back has enjoyed such an afternoon.

"You never think you are going to have a day like that," McPherson said. "You just want to go out there and enjoy one last game with the people that you've been going to work with the past few months.

"All the seniors were playing for Coach Zwaan. We all just wanted to send him out right. (Clarion) runs a lot of motions, and we just wanted to try to funnel everything up the middle. We allowed seven points, so I think our game plan worked pretty well."

As for Jacobs, he busted off runs of 63 and 51 yards to set up a pair of touchdowns in the second half. He also scored on a 28-yard scamper in the first quarter that made it 10-0 at the time. He scored on a 3-yard rush in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Jr., WR D'Shaun Seals (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) threw a 44-yard TD pass to classmate Seth Degree (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) with six minutes left in the first half that pushed the home team's lead to 17-0. In all, West Chester put up 432 yards of offense behind QB Ethan Kohler (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), who got his first start of the year for the injured Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan). Kohler finished 15-for-26 for 121 yards, a TD and an interception.

Defensively, two Clarion QBs went a combined 9-for-31 with five picks and were sacked four times. The Golden Eagles were held to 197 yards of total offense in the game. R-So., Daniel Hicks (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) had seven tackles, including 2.5 sacks. Sr., LB Khalib Slaughter (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) led the team with nine tackles in his final college game. Jr., LB Connor Noble (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) registered six tackles and was credited with two QB hurries. He finishes his first season in the purple & gold with 106 stops and seven QB hurries.
