Men's Track and Field Places Second at Bill Butler Invitational; First Among Collegiate Programs

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Derrick Lukomski-Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) set the bar high for the Golden Rams, securing a victory in the shot-put throwing for a PSAC qualifying mark of 46 feet 4 ¼ inches. He was also victorious in the discus with a throw of 165-11, to help lead the Golden Rams at the Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday afternoon. West Chester finished second in the team standings and was the top college program with 96 points to its credit, just outpacing Holy Family, who finished second with 95.99 points.
Prior to today's Invitational, which also served as the Golden Rams Mental Health Awareness Meet in partnership with the WCU chapter of The Hidden Opponent (THO), West Chester took time to honor its senior class for their efforts and contributions to the Golden Rams throughout their careers.

Thomas Smith (Wallingford, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was right behind his teammate for second place with a PSAC qualifying and personal best throw of 46-1 ¼. Smith also placed tenth in the discus with a throw of 116-4 ¼. Ben Thornton (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum) led a trio of Golden Rams in the top 10 in the hammer, placing third with a mark of 133-9 ¼, while Lukomski Pizzo and Smith finished in fifth and sixth with marks of 122-11 ¼ and 121-6, respectively.
In the 100-meter dash, Amarre Mayo (Newtown, Pa./ Council Rock North) placed fourth with a time of 11.16 seconds. Drew Gallen (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) placed 11th time of 11.30.
In the 200-meter dash, Mayo continued his impressive day, sprinting to a time of 22.83 for a tie for sixth. Ashton Barnes (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) placed ninth with a time of 23.07. Alijah Serrano (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) placed 16th, running a time of 23.07. Kaleb Brown (Reading, Pa./Wilson) placed 19th, running a time of 23.51.
Josh Miller (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) ran a time of 4:05.38 in the 1500-meter run for second place. Philip Smith (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) placed fourth in the event, running a time of 4:10.38. To round out the top ten, Luke Pikulski (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) placed tenth with a time of 4:14.50. Jason Vogt (Southampton, Pa./ William Tennent) placed 18th with a time of 4:16.77.
In the long jump, Nicholas Page (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) placed third with a leap of 20-2 ½.
Sammy Jenkins (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) placed second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14-9 ¼. Devon Carlson-Swank (Elliotsburg, Pa./Connections Charter) cleared a height of 14-3 ¼.
Derrick Johnson (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) placed eighth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-10 ¼. Junior Duffault (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) also cleared this height to finish alongside Johnson.
In the 4x100 relay, the A team posted a time of 43.03 seconds.

The Golden Rams will be on the road next week as they will head back to Widener University for a two-day invitational on April 19th and April 20th.
