– West Chester landed three swimmers in the Consolation Finals of the 50-yard freestyle, and the 200 free relay set a school record to lead West Chester University on Day 4 of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the Spire Institute Friday evening.

West Chester stands in 18th place with 51 points with one more day to go at nationals. Tampa still leads the pack with 349 points, while Drury remains close behind in second with 336 points.

Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) finished runner-up in the consolation final to place 10th overall in the 50-yard sprint. He touched in 4 minutes, 25.36 seconds, which was better than his morning swim. Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) was not far behind in 12th with a time of 4:27.42, which also bettered his prelim swim. Daniel Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was 15th in 4:30.41. He swam a 4:27.32 in the morning.

Incidentally, that same threesome of Dunigan, Demesy and Nagy placed 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively, in the 500 free to earn points for the Golden Rams on Friday.

The 200 free relay, consisting of Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown), Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) teamed up to finish 13th in 1:20.27, which broke that foursome's school record that was set at the conference meet in February.

Saturday's final day of the championships will see swimmers compete in the 100 free, 200 back and 200 breast, along with the 1650 free. The 400 free relay at night will put a bow on the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
