– Sophomore Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) placed sixth in the 1000-yard freestyle Wednesday on the second day of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the Spire Institute.

West Chester earned 17 points on Wednesday and currently sits in 20th place in the team standings. Tampa leads the field with 158 points while Drury is second with 135.

Demesy swam a lifetime best in the 1000 free to improve upon his 10th-place showing at last year's national meet and move up to sixth. Demesy touched the wall in 9 minutes, 7.13 seconds. His seed time for the event was 9:10.42. He picked up 13 of the 17 points with that All-America effort.

Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) pulled off a lifetime best swim in the 200 individual medley to place 13th overall and pick up West Chester's other four points. He swam it in 1:47.46, which was one, one-hundredth of a second faster than his seed time of 1:47.47. That seed time had him enter the finals in 15th. Nagy moved up two spots in the evening to finish 13th. Daniel Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) placed 18th in the 1000 free with a career-best 9:16.56.

West Chester continues on Day 3 at the NCAAs Thursday with prelims in the morning at 10 a.m. in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 200 free. Finals in those events get under way Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. along with the 400 medley relay.
