Demesy Third in Mile; Men Finish 18th at NCAAs

GENEVA, OHIO – Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) placed third in the 1650-yard freestyle Saturday night as West Chester University finished in 18th place at the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships inside the Spire Institute.

Tampa came away with the national team title, scoring 473 points in the five-day meet. Drury was second with 409 points and University of Indianapolis placed third with 359.
 
Demesy swam the mile in 15 minutes, 11.53 seconds to place third overall, improve upon his fourth-place finish last spring and set a new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record in the process. Teammate Daniel Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) placed 21st in the 1650 as well.
 
"My goal was to improve my time and my placement from last year," Demesy said afterwards. "I did that, and I'm very proud of that accomplishment."
 
Kolos Nagy (Szazhambolatta, Hungary) was 21st in the 200 breaststroke in the morning.
 
West Chester's 400 free relay team placed 18th in the final event of the championships. Nolan Benner (Greene Lane, Pa./Boyertown), Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown), Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) made up that relay.
